Which do you prefer and why? "Old-fashioned" black and white symbol-only charts, charts with colored blocks, or charts with a combination of colored blocks and symbols?

I much prefer the straight black and white symbol charts. I tend to work on large designs and like to take an enlarged copy of the chart to work with. Black and white charts copy much better than coloured ones. It's also a lot easier to then cross out the areas that have already been stitched so I can keep track of where I am.

I have worked from colour block and symbol charts but these tend to be smaller designs like the ones found in XS magazines.

I don't like coloured block charts, it's too easy to mistake one colour for another.
